Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a torrid year, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally parting ways with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested three-set triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents his first championship after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court from March of that year.

Success also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 various events.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children together, so to get a title is particularly special," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in Halle in the past months.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had prompted some to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and play aggressively, backed up by an improved serve.

The champion recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, took control to push for a decider.

Moutet defended four early opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, he clinched victory with a shot at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
